On honor being a prerequisite for love

I find the argument conveyed to you regarding love being more important than honor, as you relayed it to me, compelling, but not convincing. I will likely, for all time, believe that without honor, there can be no love.

In this context, honor being a recognition of respect given to its due, or of a willingness to that which is right. I say, with all conviction, that it is difficult, nay impossible, for us to love that which we do not respect or believe is right.

This is not to say that honor and love are permanently intertwined. It is possible to honor, while not to love. I only suggest that it is impossible to love without honor.

In such terms, I may honor your acquaintance's opinion on this matter, but I do not love it.
