On the great responsibility of being

My friend -,

I was asked recently, during a discussion on Darwinism, which I believe to be the natural discourse of Nature, about our stature within its ranks as it relates to our practices.

For us cunning folk, I find we hold a unique position in the greater chain of creatures and beasts who inhabit this world. We know all things encompass both the higher and lower selves, respectively bearing connections to the ethereal and mundane planes, but we, as humans and especially as the cunning folk, are privileged to have the awareness of their existence and purposes.

So then, we especially shoulder great responsibility in building up their interconnections, such that it not only elevates ourselves, but also benefits the greater good. This can at times be a heavy burden, and should therefore never be accepted lightly. It is imperative we do this with great thought and consideration, respect and empathy.

As long as we take care of this ability and gift, then I will have hope for a balanced and prosperous future.

With warmest regards,
