Based on the law of vibration, numbers carry inherent frequencies that bear significance in magick. Numerology can be used before, during, and after a spell to influence and determine its success.

0 Zero
Potential, creation, beginnings

Zero means nothing, and so it often symbolizes the potential we have to form something new out of what does not exist. In some cases, zero is seen as representative of the beginning.

1 One
Universal connection, equality, grounding

Represents the universal power that binds all things. One is considered a source, and because any number multiplied by one equals itself, it's a grounding number.

2 Two
Polarity, relationships, personal connections

Related to polarity and duality. It is balancing; two represents an equal pair, side by side. Two connects to relationships - not just between people, but also relating to possessions, money, jobs, etc.

3 Three
Unity of Nature, action vs. inaction

Generally considered the most magical number. It forms the triangle of Nature over the baseline of Orb and Sky, just as the mind's eye sits above the physical eyes. In some contexts, three is a symbol of action and interaction, while at other times it means passiveness and neutrality.

4 Four
Unification, emotions, compassion

Corresponds to the four elements, the cardinal directions and the seasons. Four is a unifying or encompassing number. It relates to emotions and our compassion towards others, and is sometimes connected to creativity.

5 Five
Physical senses, diversity, inclusion

Counts the points of the pentagram and the basic human senses. It is a multifaceted number representing diversity. While often seen as inclusive, five can sometimes be considered a bit chaotic.

6 Six
Masculinity, power, responsibility

Considered a solar number, exuding power and strong masculine energy. Because of this, it's often connected to security and responsibility.

7 Seven
Femininity, intuition, consciousness

Tied to the lunar aspect, femininity, and workings related to intuition and wisdom. Thought forms and consciousness are also represented.

8 Eight
Cycles, communications

Counts the number of sabbats in the Wheel of the Year. Eight is connected to messages and communications from the planes of Nature. Rotated on its side, it becomes the symbol of infinity.

9 Nine
Growth, completion

Equal to three times three, this is a triply powerful number. Nine indicates change and growth. It signifies achievement, an endpoint representing the completion of a process.

Name Number

The name number holds significant magickal importance. It is a translation of a name, usually a person's witch name, into a single digit.

To find the name number, first the letters of the name need to be converted into their equivalent numbers.

123456789
ABCDEFGHI
JKLMNOPQR
STUVWXYZ_

The numbers are then reiteratively summed together until a single digit remains.

As an example, the name Henry converts to:
H E N R Y = 8 + 5 + 5 + 9 + 7 = 34
The sum is then further reduced:
3 + 4 = 7
So the name number for Henry is 7.

A space in a name should be given a value if it is deemed significant (e.g. when a person regularly goes by two names, such as "Mary Francis").

Note: This method of translation can be used for any word or phrase.

Birth Number

Like the name number, there is importance placed on the use of a birth number. Simply calculated, this number uses a date of birth, or for a more exact calculation, may also include the time.

To find the birth number, begin by adding the digits of the birth date and time, if used, and continuing the summation until there is a single digit.

For example, a birth date of 5 May 1960 becomes:
5 + 5 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 0 = 26
2 + 6 = 8
So the birth number is 8.

Note: Any calendar system may be used as long as it has significance.
