Pentagram

The mighty Pentagram,
most universal of sigils,
celebrated for its magickal might.

Indicating the Elements
bearing unto Spirit,
standing as the figure of man.

Put its mark upon thy block
to instill the power therein.

In Athicca, the pentagram is a widely used magickal symbol as it is the most commonly recognized symbol in and out of pagan traditions. It encapsulates the elements of Nature, uniting them with spirit in the human form.

Because of this human association, pentagrams are always depicted with one point upward. Drawing the pentagram generally starts from the top, beginning and ending with spirit. However, to invoke a particular element, emphasizing its influence, drawing can begin at that element's point. The intent of the pentagram determines the direction in which it is drawn.

Pentagram vs. Pentacle

While sometimes used interchangeably, it should be noted that a pentacle is not the same as a pentagram. A pentacle is a round disk - usually made of wood, stone, or other similar material - inscribed with a magickal symbol. The pentagram is most prevalent, but other symbols may be used.
